Some books entertain. Some books inform. And then there are books that reach into your chest and remind you that you are not alone. Zikhona Jongizulu's debut is the third kind.
The Woman Behind the Words

Meet Zikhona Jongizulu — born in Cape Town, raised in Mdantsane, East London, where she completed her primary education at Makhukhanye and her high school years at Moses Mabhida.
Zikhona went on to graduate from the University of Fort Hare with a degree in Social Work — a qualification she did not choose by accident. Today she works as a social worker, advocating for vulnerable communities and helping people navigate some of life's most difficult moments. Her profession is not just a career. It is an extension of who she is.
The Book

Ndiligqiyazana Nje Ndomelele is a story of resilience.
Written in her mother tongue, this deeply personal book shares Zikhona's journey of growing up exposed to domestic violence — and the path she chose beyond it. It is written for women, for young people, and for anyone who has ever faced adversity and wondered whether things could ever be different.
Her message is clear and powerful: your circumstances do not determine your destiny.
The Inspiration
This book did not come from imagination. It came from life.
Growing up in an environment where domestic violence was present shaped many parts of Zikhona's childhood. But it never stopped her from dreaming. It never stopped her from working. And it never stopped her from believing that her story — and the stories of those who lived through similar experiences — deserved to be told.
She wrote this book because she knew she was not alone. And she wanted others to know the same.
The Journey
Writing Ndiligqiyazana Nje Ndomelele was not easy. It meant revisiting painful memories, sitting with difficult emotions and finding the courage to transform deeply personal experiences into something others could connect with.
There were moments of doubt. Moments where the weight of the story felt too heavy to carry onto the page. But Zikhona kept going — and the moment she held the published book in her hands, every challenge became worth it.
That is what courage looks like.
What She Wants You to Know
"I want readers to leave with hope. I want them to understand that resilience is possible, even after experiencing trauma. My message is that where you come from does not have to determine where you are going. With determination, courage, and faith in yourself, you can overcome obstacles and achieve your dreams."
Her Message to African Writers
"Your story matters. Africa is full of powerful stories that deserve to be told by those who have lived them. Don't wait for the perfect time or believe your story is too ordinary. Be brave enough to write it, because your words could inspire, heal, or change someone's life."
What's Next
Zikhona has recently navigated a major life transition and is not yet actively working on her next book — but it is already taking shape in her mind. When the time is right she will return to the page.
And when she does, we will be here for it.
